Other effect is that majority of low-income earners cannot afford a decent house. In an attempt to solve these diverse housing problems, governments have introduced a number of policies and programmes. These include provision of Federal Government low-cost housing estate, urban renewal, site and service programme, among others. A low cost housing in this sense is the one that provides decent, live able dwellings of minimum standards of space and environment at the capital and running costs, which families in the lowest income group can afford, with minimum assistance by the public authorities in the form of grants and subsidies. The Federal Low-cost housing in Akure was established in 1979-1983, its present condition as well as adequacy at meeting the housing needs of the people is the focus of this study. The sample size obtained was 254. These numbers of questionnaire were administered on the occupants of the housing estate. The main variables that were significant in the assessment of housing and living environment of the residents in the study area were considered. These among others are: wastewater management, type of kitchen, mode of refuse disposal and type of kitchen. The problems affecting the estate include poor location, inadequate maintenance, and rigid design. Others are outstretched of facilities and services and poor environmental maintenance. The paper’s recommendations include the need to make the area accessible, review of design standard, development of infrastructural facilities, utilities, and services, strengthening of security, and cooperation among the residents for maintaining the estate.

Information gathered from the administration of questionnaires include: socio-economic characteristics of respondents, major uses of creeks, existing condition of the coastal area and infrastructural facilities in the study area among others. The study reveals the present level of creek utilization, poor fishing techniques, poor sources of water and navigation routes, and manual dredging, among others. Based on the findings, it is recommended that government should employ the services of dredging companies to selected locations in the study area for dredging; this would increase the amount of sand turn over, thereby increasing revenue generated for local economic development. Periodic clearing of water weeds will also be of necessity, dredging and expansion of the creeks for navigation for modern boats and development of tourist and recreation centres will also enhance development of the area.

Abstract:
This study examines the place of transportation in the location and development of market centres in Osun State. Field survey, documentary analysis and oral interview were the major methods employed. Tables including a connectivity matrix table were computed to discuss the findings and illustrate the level of market linkages, connectivity and accessibility. Major findings are that market locations have low connectivity, poor linkages, poor accessibility, poor parking and circulation problems, coupled with these is the lack of commitment by the government in making funds available for road construction and maintenance. The paper therefore recommends that settlements with significant market centres be opened-up and linked with others in the state. This should be based on the available resources in the state. The stakeholders are encouraged to commit themselves to the transportation planning and development so as to bring about rapid transformation and development in the state.

Abstract:
University communities are integral part of the host communities in which they are located and many a time display certain attributes similar to that of the host community in terms of spatial interaction. This paper looks at the movement pattern and factors responsible for this pattern in the transport shuttle system of a bi-campus setting. The researcher employed the use of questionnaire survey and documentary analysis in seeking information on the spatial interaction pattern of different people in the university community. The types of modes available, the choice of mode of respondents, and the reasons for the choice of specific mode were determined using information derived from the questionnaire survey. This study reveals that land use pattern among other factors affects the spatial interaction of the people in the study area and the choice of modes of transport is highly determined by the available transportation services in diverse ways. Recommendations include creation of additional locations for bus/cab terminals, active involvement of the university authority in the transport services, repair of breakdown vehicles by the university authorities and that regulation and education should be given to transport operators in the university campuses.
